Gristmill at Historic Walnford UPPER FREEHOLD – It’s all about food this spring at Historic Walnford in Crosswicks Creek Park.
Visitors are invited to see how corn goes from ear to mouth during free gristmill demonstrations that take place from 1-4 p.m. on weekends starting April 5 and continuing through November.
During these demonstrations, guests can experience the rumbling and clacking of the working 19th century gristmill as an ear of corn becomes cornmeal.
After whetting the appetite during the gristmill demonstration, visitors can return to Historic Walnford between May 31 and July 13 to sample key ingredients in American food.
Historic Walnford has partnered with the Smithsonian Institution and the New Jersey Council for the Humanities to offer the informative and interactive exhibit on America’s food tradition, social interactions and history from producing to consuming.
This free exhibit can be viewed during regular park hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Open year-round, Historic Walnford showcases more than 200 years of social, technological and environmental history. Admission and parking are free. For more information about HistoricWalnford, visit www.monmouthcountyparks.com or call (609) 259-6275.
