2008 Hillsborough Township annual clean-up day begins in April. Residents will have the opportunity to dispose of old furniture, toys, rugs, appliances, bicycles, yard clean-up, hot water tanks, old furnaces, etc. Coupons are available through April 25. Only 150 coupons per date on a first-come-first-served basis. One coupon per-year per-household. Coupons are available at the Department of Public Works (behind the old municipal building and next door to the YMCA), 21 East Mountain Road from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mon. to Fri. Registration is now in progress for the Hillsborough Family YMCA’s popular Backyard Pool Program. The Backyard Pool Program offers you the opportunity to schedule swim lessons in your own pool this summer. Three sessions are available and are reserved on a first come-first served basis. Each two-week session consists of eight 30-minute lessons. Lessons are held in owner’s private pool from Monday through Thursday over a two-week period. Call 369-0490 for information.

Rawhide Rescue will hold an adoption day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. every Saturday, at the Petsmart in the Bridgewater Promenade Mall. The group will have dog sweaters, car magnets, T-shirts and other merchandise for sale to benefit the homeless pets at Rawhide Rescue. The regular meeting of the Neshanic Garden Club will be held at 10:15 a.m. at the Station House on Olive Street, Neshanic. The monthly study, Horticulture Up-date, will be presented by members Mary Kay Muckenhoupt and Frieda Miller. The main program speaker is Daryl Anne Villard from the Environmental Education Center in Basking Ridge. Ms. Villard will explain the extent invasive species have expanded through Lord Stirling Park during her seven years at the Center. We need to recognize and destroy these invasive plants which are capable of bringing down mature trees if left unchecked. A light luncheon will follow. Prospective members are encouraged to attend. Sixth Annual Island Brunch Sailing to Sicily hosted by Somerset Valley YMCA will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30 at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Bridgewater. Single Mothers Helping Single Mothers A new support group for single mothers meets at Chuck E. Cheese Pizza in the Bridgewater Promenade the first Thursday of the month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The group’s goal is to become the best parents possible through education, group support, group discussion and net-working. Looking ahead
Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties is planning a Support Group for Children Living with a Disabled Sibling in April. This is an opportunity for siblings to join together. At this group, siblings will have a place to express their feelings and emotions, and reduce feelings of stress and isolation that may arise when dealing with a disabled sibling. They will also be able to share common experiences with a group of peers in a safe, non-judgmental and confidential environment. For more information, call 725-7799.
The April 8th JANUS Bereavement Support Group meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. at 1124 Highway 202S, Suite A2, Raritan. The feature will be a presentation on “Laughing Yoga.” Ms. Jennifer Tantalla, a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader in the New York Metropolitan area will explain how we can be express ourselves through “Childlike playfulness” to reduce stress and work through grief feelings. The Hillsborough Elementary School Home and School Association will be holding a clothing drive on April 12. Come by and drop off clothing, purses, and soft household items such as curtains, blankets, shoes, ties and stuffed animals. Hillsborough resident Bernice Fatto, member of Watercolorists Unlimited, is helping the historic Blackwells Mills Canal House at 598 Canal Road, Somerset, to raise funds for repairs needed after the devastating floods of spring 2007 along the Delaware Raritan Canal. Watercolorists Unlimited has volunteered to help with its Art show and sale at the Canal House on April 12 and April 13. This will be the group’s 17th anniversary of its annual art show. The Woman’s Club of Hillsborough and the Rotary Club of Hillsborough are sponsoring “Meet the Chefs” on April 17. Tickets are $25 per person, proceeds to benefit the Hillsborough Township Department of Social Services Food Bank. Participating Hillsborough restaurants will serve a sampling of an appetizer, salad, specialty dish or dessert which represents the best of their establishment.
