Man-made light for a man-made field.
The town is moving forward on plans to install permanent lights at two artificial turf fields at Harvest Woods Park on Culver Road in Dayton.
The town approved spending $300,000 from an open space grant from Middlesex County for the project, and a contract is expected to be awarded May 13, according to Councilman Joe Camarota.
Mr. Camarota said several bids have been received, and the cost of the project will not exceed the $300,000 grant.
He expects the work to begin by the end of May, and to be completed by the end of June.
”Every athletic organization in town is now using” the park, Mr. Camarota said. “It’s being used for everything.”
He said the lights will allow the fields to be used later at night.
The project should proceed quickly because bases for the lights and electrical connections underneath the fields are in place, Mr. Camarota said.
The artificial fields were installed in 2007, using two county grants of $500,000 each.
At the time the township did not install lights to remain under budget, although it did install the necessary infrastructure.
