The following is a look at how athletes from Cranbury fared with their respective high schools this past week. If you are aware of a Cranbury resident attending Princeton High, or a prep or parochial school, who we are not including, please inform us via e-mail or voicemail. Information is gathered mainly from daily newspaper reports.
BASEBALL
Matt Alvarez had a hit and struck out eight in a complete-game effort in a 5-3 loss to undefeated Princeton Day School last Friday. Alvarez had two hits and an RBI in Princeton’s 10-4 loss to Allentown Monday.
Mark Madden was 3-for-3 with a triple, three-run homer and five RBI in Preinceton Day School’s 19-3 in over Timothy Christian last Thursday. Clint O’Brien had two doubles and two RBI in the win. Madden had a homer, single, stolen base, two RBI and a run scored and O’Brien had a triple, single, RBI and two runs scored in PDS’ win over Princeton. O’Brien had a single, triple, run, RBI and two stolen bases in an 8-4 win over Hun, while Madden had one hit, one RBI, scored twice and had a stolen base.
Chris Fiorentini had a key pinch-single in the bottom of the seventh to help Peddie score the winning run in a 6-5 win over Steinert last Thursday.
SOFTBALL
Sarah DiLella had a triple in game one and a double in game two as Peddie swept Mercersburg, 5-2 and 11-4 last Saturday. Lisa Faraci had an RBI in the nightcap. Faraci had two hits and three RBI in the Falcons 7-1 win over Rancocas Valley, and drove in DiLella and Kate Johnson with the game’s final two runs. Faraci went 3-for-3 in the Falcons 13-3 win over Hill Wednesday.
BOYS TRACK
Omar Yousef was fourth in the shot put (39-2) and fifth in the discus (102-6) in Princeton’s 76-63 win over Hopewell Valley and 79½-60½ loss to Notre Dame Tuesday. Michael Brennan (17.9) was fourth in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 400 hurdles (63.2).
GIRLS TRACK
Dana Sahli-Megan Wiseman combined for a 32-4¾ to give Princeton the gold medal in the long jump at last Saturday’s Mercer County Relays. Wiseman-Sara Li combined to jump 66 feet to win the triple jump.
Olivia Johnston won the 400 hurdles (68.2) and took third in the 100 hurdles (17.9) as Princeton fell to Hopewell Valley, 91-39, and Notre Dame, 86-54, Tuesday. Sahli won the long jump (15-7) while Wiseman was third (15-0) and Rebekka Vuojolainen took fourth (14-8). Wiseman (32-10), Vuojolainen (31-6) and Li (29-8½ were 1-2-4 in the triple jump while Sahli (4-6) was fourth in the high jump.
BOYS LACROSSE
Garrett Riley had a goal in Princeton’s 12-5 loss to Montgomery last Thursday, and added two goals in a 14-7 loss to Hun Saturday. Riley had four goals and Nick Hughes added one in Princeton’s 14-12 upset of West Windsor-Plainsboro South Wednesday.
Eugene Buckley had two goals and two assists in Peddie’s 13-3 win over Mercersburg Saturday. Buckley added an assist in a 6-5 win over Moorestown Monday and had another assist in a 16-8 loss to Hill Wednesday.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Taylor Blair had three goals, while Katie Henderson, McKenzie Henderson and Corey Henderson each had a goal in Princeton’s 11-10 loss to Pennington last Thursday. McKenzie Henderson had an assist, while goalies Devin Chambers and Maddie O’Meara combined for 23 saves.
Carly O’Brien had two goals in Princeton Day School’s 17-11 win over Rutgers Prep last Thursday.
Jenna Petrucelli had a goal and two assists in Peddie’s 16-9 win over Mercersburg Saturday, then added two goals and an assist in the unbeaten Falcons 13-8 win over Stuart Tuesday.
BOYS GOLF
Jon Bichsel shot a 40 and Curtis Smith a 42 in Princeton’s 206-226 win over Steinert at Springdale’s Par-35 course last Thursday. Bichsel shot a 1-over 36 and Smith a 37 at Springdale in a 197-247 win over Robbinsville Tuesday.
BOYS CREW
Matt Johnson competed in Peddie’s winning Men’s Lightweight 4+ event in the Mercer Sprints at Mercer Lake last weekend. The Falcons finished in 5:25.58, five seconds faster than second-place St. Paul’s.
Cameron Orcutt rowed on the Mercer Junior Rowing Club’s Varsity 8, which took second place at the Mercer Sprints.
GIRLS CREW
Erin Hawes and Elinor Silverman both rowed on the Peddie Women’s Varsity 4+ boat, which won the Mercer Sprints at Mercer Lake last weekend. The Falcons finished three seconds faster than second-place Maritime in a time of 6:16.80.
TENNIS
Nikhil Lakhanpal was part of the winning third doubles team in Peddie’s 7-0 win over Hill Wednesday.
