SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A South Brunswick High School gym teacher who was a West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South lacrosse coach was charged with sexual assault after police alleged he had a sexual relationship with a female student from South Brunswick, police said.
Daniel W. Kerekes, 37, of South River was charged with the second-degree crime following an investigation that began when a principal at the South Brunswick school contacted police Friday after receiving information about the teacher.
Mr. Kerekes has coached boy’s lacrosse at High School South for the last two years. He was arrested Saturday, police said.
Led by the South Brunswick Police Department and the Middlesex County Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit, the investigators concluded that Mr. Kerekes and the student began having the relationship sometime in fall of 2007, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
After being hired by the South Brunswick School District in September 1999, Mr. Kerekes taught both physical education and health at the school.
Neither the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office or the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District returned phone calls seeking further comment.
