‘CampWoz’ film goes international

RED BANK – The world premiere of the student-made documentary "Camp Woz: The Admirable Lunacy of Philanthropy" took place April 27 at this year’s Newport Beach Film Festival in California.

The documentary follows 10 local young men at a "dream camp" sponsored by one of the developers of the personal computer and co-founder of Apple Computer Inc., Steve Wozniak.

Care managers fromMonmouth Cares, aWest Long Branch nonprofit where emotionally and behaviorally challenged youths are mentored, accompanied them to CampWoz atWozniak’s home in northern California this past August.

The documentary first premiered in Red Bank in January, when it was privately screened at the Count Basie Theatre on Monmouth Street.

The documentary follows the youths, ages 14-20, as they work with Wozniak and other professionals and learn the basics of computers, music, art, video, karate, dance, acting, wellness and more, according to Christine Snyder, a care manager supervisor at Monmouth Cares.

Dream Camp Wyoming is scheduled for Aug. 21-26 for 10 young adult females from Monmouth Cares in Big Horn, Wyo.

"We do intend to make a documentary of this camp using past foundation activity participants like the last time, and hope for a fraction of the success of our

Camp Woz: …’ film, which just went international yesterday, having been selected into the International Film Festival England 2008," Joe Patane, whose not-forprofit corporation, The Patane Foundation, coordinates and implements the dream camp programs, wrote in an April 23 e-mail.
