Northern Burlington County Regional High boys’ varsity track and field head coach Tim Tedesco didn’t bother sending any relay teams to the second day of the South Jersey Track Carnival Invitational at Buena High this past Saturday. He didn’t have to. His Greyhounds had already made a definitive statement with a tremendous performance in the individual ýPage=015 Column=001 OK,0000.04þ
portion of that meet.
In a year of a lot of firsts, including the Greyhounds’ first Liberty Division title since 1968, NBC junior Mike Bowden became the first Greyhound ever to win an event at Buena when he captured the 3,200 meter race with a time of 9:42.01 (Bowden’s time was a second faster on hand time).
“He won by a couple seconds,” said Tedesco, who had held Bowden out of last week’s division clincher versus Pemberton to get ready for last ThursýPage=015 Column=002 OK,0000.00þ
day’s big tourney.
Northern Burlington’s Adam Rotsides took fourth in the javelin with a 161’ 11 ½” hurl while teammate Andre DeCastro captured fourth in the discus. Tedesco, however, believed both boys could have done better.
Under normal circumstances, NBC’s Chris Tomori would have battled for the gold in the 400 meter hurdles. Unfortunately, Tomori has been banged up all season long and had to settle for sixth place overall in that event.

“He did okay. Lately he’s been getting a little faster,” said Tedesco of Tomori.
NBC’s Ryan Ramirez won his heat in the mile with a time of 4:35. Blake Campbell put up solid marks in both the 200 meter race and the triple jump. Dave Specca and Thaddeus Richards both posted times in the low 50’s in the 400 meter race. The Greyhounds’ best 400 meter runner, Saidu Mustapha, has missed most of the season with a torn thigh muscle and yet ýPage=015 Column=004 OK,0003.09þ
Tedesco has somehow managed to find athletes to score points for him in that event every meet.
“This is the deepest team we’ve ever had,” added Tedesco, who seems to discover a new hero every meet.
Last year Jarrett East-Brown didn’t even run track for NBC, opting to work out for his senior football season instead. This year, however, East-Brown is one of the better sprinters in Burlington County and he posted an 11.2 second time in the 100 meter dash at Buena last ýPage=015 Column=005 OK,0000.00þ
Thursday. He’s also a tremendous jumper.
“My front end kids are very good. We won the division and Saidu (Mustapha) hasn’t even scored any points for us. This year we’ve added a lot of kids who are very talented,” said Tedesco. “It’s been a fun season.”
NBC (4-0) was scheduled to have faced Willingboro yesterday (Wednesday). NBC is scheduled to host the BSCL Divisional Meet on Saturday. Then next Tuesday, NBC is scheduled at Delran.
