I attended the Princeton Pro Musica chorus performance of Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem” at the Trenton War Memorial this past Sunday – and was totally blown away. This is a huge, demanding piece of music and the chorus rose to the challenge with passion and finesse. Accompanied by the Westfield Symphony Orchestra and the Nassau Presbyterian Church Children’s Choirs, the entire enterprise was conducted by Frances Fowler Slade who brought the many disparate pieces together into one glorious whole.
What a rare privilege to witness a performance of this extraordinary piece, especially at a time when we are engaged in a tragic conflict overseas… the poignancy was not lost on those of us in the audience. What a shame that The Princeton Packet did not cover this performance more extensively – truly a lost opportunity.
Kudos to Princeton Pro Musica chorus for taking on such a magnificent challenge.
