Board of Trustees of Princeton Nursery School
For almost eight decades, Princeton Nursery School (PNS), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, has provided affordable childcare and preschool education to families of modest means right in the heart of the John Witherspoon community. As the demographics in the neighborhood have evolved over the years, the enduring need for a solid educational start has remained. Our families have come to rely on PNS to help them provide their children with a rich preschool experience.
The United Way of Greater Mercer County has been providing significant funding to PNS for as long as the agency has been in existence. This year, however, the United Way has shifted their approach to funding large collaborative initiatives and will not be funding the Princeton Nursery School program. This loss of funding represents 12 percent of our total operating budget.
Although we are sincerely grateful for the support the United Way has provided over the decades and have been proud of our affiliation with them, this loss of funding poses a significant financial challenge for us.
The cost for preschool education and childcare for one child is more than $750 per month, which is over $9,000 a year. Most of the families who depend on PNS earn less than $25,000 a year and would find it impossible to maintain this level of care for their children without the support the Princeton community has provided.
As we complete our eighth decade of service, we remain committed to the families we serve. Princeton Nursery School has become part of the fabric of the John Witherspoon community and will remain so for decades to come. Our deepest thanks to the community for their continued support.
