TINTON FALLS – A resolution that would have accepted health benefit proposals from health insurance company Ameri- Health was carried for the second time during the May 6 council meeting.
The resolution to accept the proposal from the New Jersey-based AmeriHealth was moved to the May 20 meeting.
“AmeriHealth New Jersey submitted a proposal which would result in savings to the borough of Tinton Falls,” the resolution states.
The resolution further states that the provider confirmed that it would provide coverage equal to or better than that offered through Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Borough administration made the decision to shop for a different insurance provider for eligible borough employees as well as to cut insurance for the mayor and council in an effort to trimthe 2008 budget.
Had the borough remained with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, the current provider, health care costs would have put the borough over the budget cap, Director of Finance Stephen Pfeffer explained at the April 1 council meeting, before the resolution was carried for the first time.
