Big-top entertainment is coming to South Brunswick this weekend.
The Zerbini Family Circus will perform Saturday and Sunday under its tent on the lawn at Crossroads South Middle School on Major Road. The event is sponsored by the South Brunswick Lions Club, and all proceeds benefit the club’s various charitable activities.
The Lions have been holding the event for the last 10 years. This is the second year that they have used the Zerbini circus, according to the event’s chairperson, Barbara Hendrickson.
”It is a tradition that the Lions bring the circus to town every year,” Ms. Hendrickson said. “We always get a lot of nice responses to it.”
The Zerbini circus is based out of Myakka City, Fla. It has been touring the East Coast and performing for crowds inside its blue and yellow tent for 14 years. The show features about 20 performers including acrobats, clowns, jugglers, camels and ponies among other acts, according to its producer, Alain Zerbini.
Lions Club member Lew Schwartz said the event is the club’s biggest annual fundraiser, and is fun for the people of all ages.
”It always reminds people of the old days,” Mr. Schwartz said. “It takes them back to the days of the traveling circus.”
Mr. Schwartz said that profits from the show will contribute to scholarships for local students, the township’s rescue squads, as well as programs for the blind and hearing impaired.
Performances will be held at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $9 at Pierre’s Restaurant on Georges Road, at Monmouth Mobil Home Park on Route 1, and at Planet Pets on Route 27. Tickets will also be available at the gate for $11.
