Pats win pair of events at East Coast Relays

Boys win 400 hurdles, girls long jump

Freehold Township’s hurdlers have demonstrated individually what they can do all year.

At the May 19 East Coast Relays at Morristown High School, they showed what they can do collectively.

Dan Mularz, Bobby Searby and Jeff Kole teamed up to win the 400-meter hurdles relay by more than two seconds, 2:52.11 to runner-up Ridge’s 2:54.27.

Mularz put down the fastest time, 55.02, running the anchor leg for the Patriots. Searby had the fifth-best time with a 58.10 on his leg while Kole’s 58.99 was the 10th fastest.

Marcus Goode (21-5 ½) and Corey Csakai (20-3) had combined jumps of 41- 8 ½) and finished second to Trenton (42- 2 ½).M

ularz and Searby teamed up with Ryan Spadola and Abe Hamami to take third in the 1,600-meter sprint medley. They ran a 3:33.67 behind Jackson (3:31.16) and Curtis, N.Y. (3:33.11)

Colts Neck took second in the 4×1.600 relay (18:26.24) – Mike O’Dowd (4:32.7), Jason Weiner (4:41.3), Kevin O’Dowd (4:39.3) and Mark Leininger (4:32.9) made up the quartet.

Manalapan, anchored by Robby Andrews, was eighth (19:24.12). Gary Sparapani, MattGabor andAdamNilsenmade up their team.

Chris Lombardi, Logan Smith,Hamami, and Gregg Tilley turned in a 19:39.54 for Freehold Township and placed 10th.

In the field, Manalapan was eighth in the javelin throw relay (280-6). George Catuogno (142-9) and Brett McCarron (137-9) made up the Braves’ team.

Not to be outdone by the boys, Freehold Township’s girls won the long jump relay. Desiree Reese, who has become a consistent 17-plus jumper, had the best jump of the competition, 17-4. When that was added to Collette Johnson’s 15-9, their combined 33-1 topped the field.

The Pats’ team of Johnson, Tanika Peart, Janel Parker and Amy Buckiewicz took eighth in the sprint medley (4:17.50).

ColtsNeckwas third in the girls 400 hurdles relay (3:27.11). Karissa Herrick’s 1:06.89was the fifth-fastest time of the relay. Sister Kathlyn Herrick turned in a 1:07.82 (seventh fastest), and the third member of the team, Julia Tomaro, ran a 1:12.40.

The same trio with the addition of Lindsey Rappleyea ran eighth in the 4×100 shuttle hurdles relay.

Howell took a fourth place in the javelin throw(197-6).NorellAbernathy had the seventh best throw of the competition (100-0), and Priscilla Napoli had the 11th (97-6).

The Rebels finished eighth in the 4×800 relay with Lauren Rome, Lindsey Lambert, Lauren Rupp and Adedayo Adu making up the team. They posted a 9:55.56.
