MARLBORO – Following a recent series of burglaries throughout the community, the Marlboro Police Department will be increasing patrols with marked and unmarked cars.
“There is no more sacred right than to feel safe in one’s home. This rash of burglaries is not a cause for alarm, but it will be ended,” Mayor Jonathan Hornik said in a prepared statement.
Staffing levels will be increased to their highest levels and police will implement additional surveillance tactics, Hornik said.
Police are offering the following tips to residents to better protect their homes:
• When leaving your home, lock all doors and windows.
• Turn lights on in the residence to make it appear as if someone is home.
• If you have an alarm, make sure it works properly and turn it on.
• Secure all valuables in a secret location. Small fire safes can be easily taken, so safes should be of a good quality and permanently installed.
• If you are going to be out for the evening or away for an extended period, let a neighbor know that you will be gone so they may report suspicious activity at your residence.
• Report all suspicious activity to police immediately. Get as good a description as possible of vehicles or people believed to be involved in an incident.
