MONMOUTH BEACH – Oakhurst artist Pat Halsey will exhibit her paintings at the Monmouth Beach Cultural Center from June 4-21.
An artist’s reception is planned to be held 6-8 p.m. June 13 at OceanAvenue center. The public is invited to attend the event.
Halsey’s show, called “What’sHappening Now!” is a display of oil paintings of sites in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
The show is a collection of landscape paintings done “en plaine air” and focuses primarily on trees and the light coming through the branches. Several pieces of her work portray light as it falls on the water.
Halsey said that she feels very fortunate to be working with Lizzie Schippert and Sven Widen, who are artists who teach at the Art Alliance in Red Bank.
“I hope that I’mlearning the sense to recognize the happy accident, when to stop, when to turn to the wall, when it needs a nice, hot fire,” Halsey said. “Sometimes a sketch done prior to the painting turns out to be the best thing the day produces.
“Sometimes a stormhits, giving you five minutes to finish, without the interference of thought,” she said, adding, “I find it a joy to work in nature this way. I should bring my own thunderclouds.”
Monmouth Beach Cultural Center is openWednesday through Saturday from10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 732-229-4527.
