Cosimo “Sam” Gentile

Mr. Gentile, 82, of Freehold, died May 15, 2008, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. A decorated U.S. Army veteran, he participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach. Mr. Gentile was a bricklayer before starting a 25-year career with the City of New York as an expert witness in building codes and safety. Surviving are his wife of nearly 60 years, Rose; a son and daughter in-law, Sam and Diana Gentile of Red Bank; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and John Eschmann of Warwick, N.Y., Dolores and Anthony Ceraso of LakeWorth, Fla., and Christine and Vincent Romanzi of Freehold; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, both Freehold Township. Interment followed at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
