Installation of a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Scotch and Nursery roads in southern Hopewell Township is among the preliminary construction activities expected to get under way almost immediately in the area where the new Capital Health System (CHS) hospital will be built.
The hospital, approved by the township Planning Board last November, will be north of I-95 and east of Scotch Road. The hospital is a permitted use under the township zoning code.
Regrading of a portion of the hospital site and preparation of an area for construction trailers are also expected to begin very soon.
An interim developer’s agreement with CHS that allows the preliminary work to begin now, while a final draft of the developer’s agreement is readied for committee approval, was approved by the full Township Committee Tuesday night. A committee vote on the final document is expected next month, township Administrator/Engineer Paul Pogorzelski said.
The interim agreement says that “CHS would like to take preliminary steps to ensure that it will meet the construction schedule that has been reviewed and approved” by Mr. Pogorzelski and the township construction department.
Nursery Road intersects Scotch Road immediately north of I-95. The measure states that the temporary traffic signal at Nursery and Scotch roads is “needed to facilitate orderly construction” at the CHS site. “The light is required by the Mercer County Transportation Development District and has been approved by the Mercer County Planning Board.”
Scotch Road is a county road, running north-south through Hopewell and Ewing townships.
