The Brick Township Recreation Department has assembled a diverse summer schedule of activities for residents which includes camps, music, arts and crafts, tumbling, swimming programs, sports, adults fitness programs and much more. Registration dates for programs vary.
A wide range of early childhood programs will be offered for children as young as 18 months including Mommy and Me, First Time on My Own and Preschool Playgroup. Dates vary and times are generally weekday mornings. Other programs for young children will include Dancing Bears Music and a tumbling program on the Fun Bus. For children in grades 1-6 there will be two one-week KidzArt camps, and two one-week Mad Science camps as well as Hip Hop Dance for juniors ages 7-10 and teens ages 11- 15. Dates, times and fees vary depending on the program.
The Barracuda Swim Team is open to children age 5 to 14. The program includes daily practices with continuous swimming and participation in meets throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties. Practices are age appropriate and all swimmers must meet minimum requirements or they will be referred to the instructional program. The cost is $85 per child and registration begins the week of June 9.
Registration for the Junior Lifeguard program begins May 27. This 5-day course, open to residents ages 10-15, is designed to provide students with a sound aquatic background and the skills needed to one day become an ocean lifeguard. Enrollment is limited and the fee is $85.
Registration will open June 2 for Playground Camp and Adventure Camp. Playground camp will be offered at Windward Beach for Brick children ages 5-8. Adventure Camp will be held at the Drum Point Sports Complex for children ages 9- 12 and features a variety of outdoor sports, games and activities as well as trips. Playground Camp and Adventure Camp run from 9 a.m. to 2 pm. July 7 through Aug. 8. Parents may register their children for the full session at the cost of $100 or for 12 days at a cost of $50. The 12-day pass may be used on any regular camp day. No refunds will be issued for unused days at the end of the session.
Police Camp, offered by the Brick Township Police Department, is a six-day camp for children ages 11-12.Activities include physical training, handcuffing techniques, police baton training, K-9 interaction, bike unit training and obstacle course, motor vehicle stops and accident investigation as well as trips to other police agencies and a graduation ceremony. Campers must be able to adhere to a strict disciplinary code and to perform rigorous physical activities. There is no registration fee, enrollment is limited and selection is done by lottery. Swim lessons will be offered this year for residents ages 2-12 in the pool at the Maple Leaf Condominium Complex, Herbertsville Road, in the morning and early afternoon. Each session consists of onehour lessons on seven consecutive weekdays. Two sessions will be offered with times at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. for children 5- 12 and at 1 p.m. for children ages 2-4. The cost is $85 per session, per child. There is a maximum enrollment of 25 students. Registration begins the week of May 19.
Golf and tennis instruction will be offered with both morning and evening sessions available. Specialized sports camps and clinics in lacrosse, soccer, and surfing are also offered. Registration for instructional sports programs and early childhood programs begin in June and fees vary.
Registration begins May 19 for summer basketball programs.An indoor clinic, open to township boys and girls in grades 2-8, will be held from June 24-July 24 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the Lake Riviera Middle School gymnasium. The fee is $50 per child.
Registration will also begin for the outdoor summer basketball league for Brick boys and girls in grades 5-8 as well as a high school boys division for grades 9-11. Games are played on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the outdoor courts at Lanes Mill School, Lanes Mill Road. The program is limited to 200 participants and the fee is $65 per child.
Two fitness programs for adults will also be offered. Four sessions of Fitness Boot Camp will beginMay 2. Each session will be four weeks long with classes meeting three times per week for an hour each time. They will be held at Windward Beach on Monday,Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8-9 a.m. The fee is $130 per person.
Pilates on the Beach will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Windward Beach beginning June 17-July 24. The cost is $55 per student.
Enrollment in Brick Recreation programs is limited to residents or children of Brick Township taxpayers or those who receive regular daily care from a relative who is Brick Township resident. A driver’s license, tax bill, utility bill or lease with a Brick Township address is required to complete registration.
With the exception of Police Camp, all program registrations are held at the Recreation Department, Civic Plaza, 270 Chambers Bridge Road.
