Howard S. “Pete” McCormick

Mr. McCormick, 79, of the Adelphia section of Howell, died May 25, 2008, at CareOne in Jackson. He grew up in Red Bank and lived in Tinton Falls andWayside, Ocean Township, before moving to Howell. Mr. McCormick served in the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marines. He and his partner, Ed Van Brunt, started McVan Steel, Farmingdale, which he later became sole owner of until his retirement in 2002. Mr. McCormick was an outdoorsman who raised and trained bird dogs and participated in judged bird dog trials. He was predeceased by his brother, Alan W. McCormick. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Frances C. Dix; two daughters, Michelle A. Deschaine and Melissa J. Struk and her husband, Edward J. Struk Jr. of Millstone; three sisters-in-law, Patricia McCormick of Freehold Township, Jane D. Berg of Mesa, Ariz., and Alice D. White and her husband, W. Chandler White Jr. of Cummings, Ga.; and three grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Ardena Baptist Church Cemetery in Farmingdale.
