ATV rider, 30, killed in crash

OLD BRIDGE- Atownship man driving an all-terrain vehicle on Cheesequake Road last week was killed after his ATV struck a vehicle in the oncoming lane of travel.

Marc Reeves, 30, died at about 9:30 p.m. May 26, Memorial Day, about 12 hours after the crash, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Nicholas Sewitch confirmed.

Reeves had been traveling south on Cheesequake Road on his ATV when he reportedly went off the roadway, re-entered the road and then crossed into the oncoming lane, having apparently lost control of the vehicle. He then struck the fender of a 1994 Toyota Corolla that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Reeves, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the ATV. He was taken by helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Sewitch said an Old Bridge police officer had observed Reeves driving the ATV on the roadway, which is not permitted by law, and tried to conduct a motor vehicle stop prior to the collision. He stressed, however, that there is no indication that the officer was in pursuit of theATV at the time.

Sewitch said he did not know where Reeves was coming from or going to at the time of the crash.
