Long Branch planned to host a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday to initiate the construction of the new and long-awaited Manahassett Creek Park development project.
The park will include new athletic fields for all sports, state-of-the-art fitness stations, new basketball and tennis courts and other amenities on a site exceeding 20 acres. Construction on the park is estimated to take one year.
The park is located in the northern section of the city and is bordered to the west byNarragansettAvenue, to the east by Long BranchAvenue, to the south by NaberalAvenue and to the north by BayAvenue.
Also planned at the site is security lighting, a buffer area between the park and surrounding neighborhood, and two parking lots. The city awarded a $3.9 million contract to Precise Construction last month to build the park.
