JACKSON – A four-day festival with all the hoopla will be held at Jackson Liberty High School, 125 North Hope Chapel Road, June 12-15.
“Over the past few months, technology teacher and class of 2011 adviser David Feimster, along with a group of freshman students, have been working diligently to have Liberty Fest 2008. As it draws near, our excitement level is growing,” Principal Maureen Butler said.
The community is welcome to attend the festival, which will feature rides, food, games and entertainment. The event will run 5-10 p.m. June 12, 13 and 14, and 1-6 p.m. June 15.
June 12 and June 15 will be special wristband days. On those days, a coupon will allow an unlimited number of rides for a flat rate of $20. General admission and parking fees will be $2.
Proceeds from the festival will go to the Jackson Liberty High School Band Parents Association, the McAuliffe PTO, the Jackson Liberty High School Parent Teacher Network, Cardboard Canoe Team, Health Occupation Student Association, cross country, baseball, gymnastics and step teams, Ski Club, Student Council, Art Honor Society and the class of 2011.
Entertainment will be provided by local bands Catalyst and Before The After Party. There will be shows by Hot Dog Pig Racing and Doc Swan, an Old-Time Medicine Show.
“He does crazy things,” Feimster said of Doc Swan, “the kind of things you [see] on MTV. He eats fire, sleeps on nails, walks on glass and comes out of a straightjacket.”
Feimster came up with the idea of a festival from his own experience.
“When I’m not in the classroom, I spend the rest of my life out on the road doing entertainment for fairs and festivals throughout the country,” he said. “My daughter told me to raise money by doing something I know how to do, and so the idea came up that way.
“The town has been very good to us,” Feimster said. “Anybody I’ve gone to and asked for help has said yes. Bil-Jim Construction is providing us with lighting, and Jackson is allowing us to use the stage.”
Teachers and administers from Jackson Liberty High School will take turns in the dunk tank.
“Just come out and have fun” Feimster said.
