An illegal immigrant was arrested at a South Brunswick warehouse on Monday for allegedly using his cell phone to record images of women in the rest room.
Juan Torres, 28, of Jamesburg, was found in a ladies room at a warehouse contracted by Wakefern food company on Tower Road after he was seen standing on the toilet of a locked stall and using his phone to record a women in an adjacent stall, according to South Brunswick police spokesman Sgt. James Stoddard.
Mr. Torres was discovered when another female employee of the warehouse entered the lavatory to use the rest room, and discovered that the stall was locked, but no legs were underneath, police said. She then peered through a crack between the stall door and frame, and saw Mr. Torres.
Police were alerted, and Mr. Torres was found in the ceiling above rest room, where he had climbed through tiles after being spotted, police said.
A patrol officer searched through Mr. Torres phones and discovered images taken in the rest room. Sgt. Stoddard said that Mr. Torres’ phone was capable of taking video as well as still pictures, but did not say what kind of images were recorded in the bathroom.
According to Wakefern spokeswoman Karen Meleta, Mr. Torres was not an employee of their company, but was employed by Twin Oaks, the owner of the warehouse whose services are contracted by Wakefern.
Police said Mr. Torres told them he had entered the country on a passport from Peru years ago, but had remained in the country after its expiration, working under a false Social Security number, Sgt. Stoddard said.
Mr. Torres was charged with producing images of exposed body parts without a license or privilege to do so.
Mr. Torres was taken to Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, where he is being held on $15,000, and an Immigration and Naturalization Service no-bail detainer.
Mr. Torres also had two outstanding warrants, in East Brunswick and Jamesburg.
