Relay for Life a success; event day scheduled for June 8 in Jackson

The 2008 New Egypt Area Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society’s No. 1 fundraiser, was completely different this year than any other year in the past. With the rain on May 9, New Egypt High School graciously opened its gymnasium to the community in order for the celebration of Relay for Life to continue.

Over 300 area residents from New Egypt, Millstone, Allentown, Jackson and surrounding areas participated in a “Relay Rally” to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones who have battled cancer, and fight back to find a cure.

The evening was a resounding success with over $57,000 raised, 35 survivors celebrated and hundreds of smiles and much love and camaraderie.

The event day has been scheduled for teams who raised funds (and have continued to raise funds in the ensuing month) to show off their hard work.

The event day will be held June 8 at Indian Rock Campground (920 West Veterans Highway) in Jackson.

The event day will sponsor another survivor ceremony (all area residents who have or are battling cancer are welcome to attend), a survivor’s lap, where survivors will take a turn around the track, a team banner lap, all the fun activities that did not take place because of the May 9 rain, including themed team laps (celebrity look alike, NASCAR, wacky tourist, Hawaiian, and more), dunk tank, volleyball, mini golf, hayrides, pony rides, etc. Top fundraising teams will be recognized as well as the teams with the most team spirit.

The public is welcome to attend (a $10 registration fee is required at check-in). On premises fundraisers include a silent auction, the Relay Grill (all food has been donated so all money raised goes back to Relay for Life), face painting, and more. Children age 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
