Applewood Estates, CentraState Healthcare System’s lifecare retirement community, recently honored donors to its Residents Assistance Fund to dedicate select community areas. The charitable fund provides support for residents who, for reasons beyond their control, encounter difficulty paying their monthly service charge.
Applewood Estates is on Gully Road, Freehold Township.
“We’re grateful for all our residents who give back in so many ways and make us all happy to be part of the Applewood family.
“This was an opportunity to recognize several individuals for significant investments in the security and well being of their fellow residents through generous donations to Applewood’s Residents Assistance Fund,” said Jay Solomon, vice president, Senior Services.
Those honored at the ceremony include:
• Lois DeConca, an 18-year resident of Applewood. She named the Frank DeConca Group Exercise Room in memory of her late husband.
• Joan Foley, who had been a longtime friend of soon-to-be Applewood resident Rose Crociata. Foley’s family named the Computer Lab in her memory.
• Maryella K. Griffin, the late wife of Applewood resident and CentraState Medical Center volunteer Bill Griffin, who named the chapel in her memory. An avid rose gardener, Griffin also donated to the chapel a window and door made of stained glass, incorporating roses into the design.
• Ambrose “Amby” LeVan, a longtime Applewood resident, volunteer and fundraiser, helped purchase the A/V equipment for the community’s new performing arts center. The Ambrose E. LeVan Visual Sound Booth was named in his honor.
• Applewood resident Barbara Potter named the Barbara A. Potter Craft Room in recognition of her favorite hobby – needlework. She spends Monday and Friday mornings in the craft room chatting with friends and knitting baby caps for the hospital and lap robes for the residents in Applewood’s assisted living and skilled nursing sections.
• Applewood resident Anna C. Smythe and her daughter Carolyn S. Duckett, a lifelong Freehold resident, named the Anna C. Smythe and Carolyn S. Duckett Library. Duckett is certified in library science and established libraries in three Freehold Township schools.
• Arnold “Speedy” Verosloff, an Applewood resident and longtime supporter of CentraState Medical Center, received special recognition for his generosity over the years for which the hospital named a garden in memory of his parents, Abraham and Fannie Verosloff.
Applewood Estates recently completed a $38 million expansion and upgrade including the addition of a 250-seat performing arts center, a full-service fitness center, a spa with massage room, a 175-seat formal dining room and other amenities.
