Courtney Hortsman and Samantha Hering, Level 9 gymnasts from the Monmouth Gymnastics Academy, competed in the 2008 Nationals held in Ohio.

Hortsman scored a 36.175 in the allaround competition. She finished fifth on the vault (9.275) and the floor exercise (9.45). Hering scored 8.6with her floor routine, 7.95 of the uneven bars and 8,875 on the floor.

Hortsman also competed in the HOPES Child Elite Division at t he U.S. Challenge held in Houston, Texas. This competition brings together the top female gymnasts in the child elite division from throughout the country.

In Optionals, Hortsman placed 11th in the AA (50.65). She was second on the vault, sixth on the floor, 13th on the bars and 19th on the beam. In Compulsories, she was eighth in the AA (35.10), sixth on the vault, ninth on the bars and floor and 11th on the beam.

Maggie Haney coaches both the MGA girls and MGA HOPES gymnasts.

At the 2008 Regional competition held in West Virginia for Level 8 and 9, Hortsman was 10th in the Level 9 AA (36.05), second on the vault and floor and sixth on the bars. These results qualified her for the 2008 Eastern Nationals.

At Level 8, Cori Greis was 10th in theAA (36.65) and fourth on the bars and Kristina Platas, 12th in the AA (36.475), fifth on the vault and 10th on the beam forMGA.

The Howell South Titans captured the recent Marlboro Memorial Tournament. The Titans are a 10-year-old travel baseball team.

The Titans played three games to get to the playoffs where they beat the Monroe Falcons, 6-1, in the semifinals. They beat the South Orange Villagers 7-2 in the championship final.

The Titans are: Donovan O’Malley, James Wynne, Vincent Murphy, Danny Gaul, Justin Connors, Matt Masone, Russell Quinlan, Andrew Larsen, Ryan Snyder, Frankie Lamela, Patrick O’Toole, Josh Venetos and Connor Fey. The coaches are are Jim Wynne, Bill O’Toole, Mike Venetos, Mo Lamela and head coach Frank Masone

Manalapan Parks and Recreation will present the Rising Star Basketball Camp June 25-28 at Manalapan High School. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, Wednesday through Saturday.

TheRising Star SoccerCampwill be held Aug. 18-22 at Manalapan High School. The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This camp also dates back to 1993 and is directed by Manalapan boys varsity coach John Natoli, whose team won the State Group IV championship last fall and Rick Garretson, the varsity coach of theManalapan girls.

The 10th annual FCF Football Camp for players ages 7- 14 will be held at Colts Neck High School from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from June 30-July 3. Each camper gets four days of outstanding football instruction, delivered by a knowledgeable and experienced staff, who teach the fundamentals essential to success in any youth program in a positive learning environment.

U9 Blue Magic of the Girls Soccer League of Old Bridge finished in first place in MOSA’s Division V National 3 flight. The girls had a great season, finishing with seven wins, one loss and two ties. Congratulations go out to the following girls Heather Adamcewicz, Courtney Brennan, Nicole Carbone, Emily Carrington, Stefani Colamonico, Kristi Gambino, Breanna Jacinto, Samantha Jaeger, Dominique Lovallo, Allison Moukios, Angela Pagiazitis and Sarah Resciniti. Coaches Emily, Rob and Mike should also be congratulated for teaching the girls great skills, which allowed them to play with teamwork and sportsmanship. The Blue Magic girls also participated in the Cherry Hill FC Tournament this past weekend. They had a great time in the heat and ended their U9 soccer season burning up the fields.
