Local man arrested for burglaries

OCEAN TOWNSHIP – A 24-year-old townshipman is facing charges after fleeing the scene of a robbery last week.

Police arrested and charged Cecil Romero Bailey with multiple counts of burglary and resisting arrest following a breakin at the township’s Industrial Park, where five businesseswere reportedly to have been burglarized, according to police reports.

According to reports, at approximately 3:40 a.m. on June 1, Ocean Township police officers responded to a burglar alarm at a commercial business on Lawrence Avenue in the Sunset Industrial Park area of the township.

Upon arrival at the scene, Ocean Township Patrolman Cory Cole discovered that several businesses housed in the Industrial Park had been forcibly entered by an unknown suspect, according to reports.

Additional officers responded to the scene and requested the assistance of a K-9 unit fromthe Bradley Beach Police Department, according to reports.

Bradley Beach Police Officer William Major arrived on the scenewith hisK-9 and established a track of a suspect that led to a wooded area a short distance away fromthe industrial complex in the Middlebrook at Monmouth apartment complex, authorities said. While searching the area, theK-9 led police to a person who was hiding in the area. After realizing he was noticed, amale, later identified as Bailey, ran from the area.

In an effort to stop the suspect, the K-9 was released and chased the man a short distance before the suspect entered what was later found to be a relative’s apartment on Rustic Drive.

Officers were able to gain entry into the relative’s apartment and took the suspect into custody, according to reports.

A follow-up investigation by officers revealed that a small amount of cash and a few electronic items were removed fromthe businesses, according to reports.

Bailey was arrested and charged with five counts of burglary, five counts of criminalmischief, one count of theft, one count of possession of burglary tools and one count of resisting arrest, according to reports.

He was held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township in default of $50,000 bail.
