Police must beef up patrols, make parks safer for residents

The dictionary definition of a park is: “An area of land set aside for public use, as: A piece of land with few or no buildings within or adjoining a town, maintained for recreational and ornamental purposes. A landscaped city square. A large tract of rural land kept in its natural state and usually reserved for the enjoyment and recreation of visitors.”

Once upon a time, we were able to go to the public parks and barbecue and picnic, and people were able to spend the whole day with their families. Today, we have to worry about getting mugged, beaten up or assaulted, and also worry about drugs, drunks and even race or color.

I feel that as taxpayers and respected citizens of the community, we shouldn’t have to deal with these issues and that we should feel safe.

The park I am speaking of is Dailey’s Pond Park in South River. I feel that police officers should be patrolling more often, and when a crime is reported, they need to be on the lookout more so tragic events don’t repeat themselves. I have seen police, and crimes and the park shut down because of them on many occasions. Why?

Anytime you have a reduction in crime as a result of public ordinance, that’s good for us and for the citizens of the community. Parks should be safer for people to go to, and parks should be patrolled more.
