Julian Rosenberg, 11, of Marlboro, won the recent Boys 14 Singles at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournament, eastern-southern N.Y. section. The tournament was held at Copper Springs Beach Tennis in Gillette. Rosenberg, who attends Marlboro Memorial Middle School, dropped only one set in his five matches.

Junior Golf America closed out its spring schedule with a tournament at the Hanover Golf Club in Wrightstown. Austin D’Angiolillo of Somerset won the boys 16-19 age bracket, carding a 90. Greg Doerr of Ringoes (94) and Steffen Schenkenberger of Jackson (97) were second and third.

Lawrenceville’s Brian Joseph won the 14-15 age bracket with an 89. Andrew Hodge of Bridgewater (92) and Dennis Dotson of Yardley, Pa., (94) were second and third.

Metuchen’s Peter Kim won the 12-13 age group with a low round of 77. He was followed by Jack Horton of Princeton and Charles Cai of West Windsor, who tied for second at 79.

Curren Mody of Monmouth Junction was first in the 10-11 age group. He carded a 41. Tyler Prater of Salt Point, N.Y., was second with a 47; third place was a tie between Kyle Contreras of Cliffside Park and Sebastian Naibaho of Yonkers, who both shot a 51.

Ryan Kyaw of Pinehurst, N.Y., took first place in the 8-9 bracket with a 40 over nine holes. Marlboro’s Tej Singh was second 37 (through eight holes) and Randolph’s Joseph Ryan was third (46).

Princeton’s Alice Chen won the girls’ competition with an 87 over 18 holes. Margo Bernet (52) and Lena Campbell, both of Cream Ridge, (63) were second and third. They played nine holes.

The JGA’s Summer Tour begins today in Lincroft at Bamm Hallow County Club.

Marlboro Youth Football is holding registration for the fall 2008 NFL Flag Football season. The flag football league is open to players from throughout the area entering kindergarten and for pre-K children who turn 5 this year. Games are played on Monday or Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. Each participant gets an official NFL flag football jersey. Registration fee is $75 and can be done online at www.marlboroyouthfootball.com or by calling 732-772-9888.

Space is available for Marlboro Youth Football tackle football and cheer (kids entering grades first through eighth are eligible).

The Freehold Area Running Club Summer 5K Race Series starts its 26th season tonight at the Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Manalapan. The 5K, held inside the park, starts at 6:45 p.m. The accompanying Kids Summer Nights races will start at 6 p.m. Onsite registration will start at 5:30 p.m.

The summer series will be held Wednesday evenings through July 30.
