Howell’s Trevor Rockhill was among the winners when Junior Golf America recently opened its summer tournament season.

The Bamm Hollow Country Club, Lincroft, hosted the first event that offered competition for boys and girls divided by age.

Rockhill, who helped lead Howell to the Shore Conference A North Division and Freehold District championships in the spring, won the boys 16-19 division carding an 80. He was one stroke better than Tinton Falls’ Christian Drappi (81). Third place went to Matthew Pallis of Springfield (83).

The boys 14-145 bracket went to Fair Haven’s Charlie Edler, who had the low round of the day, 78, and was three strokes clear of the field. Red Bank’s Marco Soto, Ramsey’s Anthony Schifano and Staten Island, N.Y.’s Jonathan Lepre shared second after each carded a 91.

Hana Ku from Basking Ridge won the 12-13 division with a 91. Fair Haven’s John Edler was second (94) and Lavallette’s Quin Kusman, third (95).

Howell’s Dawson Jones won the 10-11 age group taking 43 strokes to complete the nine holes. There was a three-way tie for second, three strokes back, between Monroe’s Hartej Gill, Westfield’s Jonathan Lee and Annapolis, Md.’s Nicholas Infanti.

In the 8-9 year-old age division, also played over nine holes, Sean Andrew Yi of Montclair was first with a 37. Second place went to Anina Ku of Basking Ridge (48).

Manalapan’s Pat DiLeo won the boys 16-19 Masters Division with a 36-hole score of 140. The Manalapan High School senior-to-be was nine strokes in front of runner-up Sean Lawrence of Monroe Township (149). Mike McHugh of Wayne was third (153). DiLeo’s score was the low for the tournament.

Bridgewater’s Andrew Hodge took first in the 14-15 year-old age division with a 161. Livingston’s Steven Wilof was second (169), followed by Michael McHugh of Belle Mead (178).

Short Hills’ Arujun Madgavkar captured the 12-13-year-old age division with a 162. Basking Ridge’s Hana Ku (168) and Bridgewater’s Dominic Diaz (169) were second and third.

The next stop on the JGA’s summer schedule is the two-day tournament at the Colts Neck Golf Club that concludes today. On Thursday, the Forsgate County Club, Monroe, is hosting an event. Upcoming stops include The Peddie School in Hightstown, July 21.

This is the ninth season for the JGA, which has become the largest junior golf organization in the Northeast with tournament stops in New Jersey and New York. It will host 50 tournaments this year as some of the state’s top public and private courses.
