Rutgers University head women’s gymnastics coach Chrystal Chollet-Norton announced the hiring of Louis Levine as an assistant coach.

“We are delighted to have Lou join our staff for the upcoming school year,” said Chollet-Norton. “He was an outstanding gymnast who will bring tremendous knowledge and coaching experience to our program. We look forward to working with him both in the gym and with our recruiting.”

Levine brings a wealth of experience to the Rutgers program after spending the previous three years as the assistant director of the International Gymnastics Camp in Stroudsburg, Pa.

Levine’s coaching experience includes three seasons as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at his alma matter at the University of Michigan. While a member of the Wolverines staff, he coached 2003 NCAA Vault Champion Andrew DiGiore. Levine also oversaw all aspects of Michigan’s recruiting operations and organized the program’s operating budget. During his time at Michigan, he served on the planning committee for the program’s freshman student-athlete orientation program, helping mentor newcomers.

The Springfield native also spent time with the United States of America Gymnastics team in Daegu, South Korea where he was an assistant coach for the World University Games.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 2002 and masters from theAmerican InterContinental University Business School in 2006.

While an athlete at Michigan, Levine helped the Wolverines to a pair of Big 10 titles in 1999 and 2000 and the 1999 NCAA Championship. He was a two-time recipient of the Coaches Appreciation Award at the program’s annual awards banquet.

Levine replaces Thomas DeMattia, who served the past two seasons on the Scarlet Knights’ staff.
