Former Montgomery resident
NEWVILLE, Pa. — Montgomery Banister died Saturday at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was 86.
He was a former Montgomery Township resident.
A graduate of the Webb Institute, Mr. Banister was a naval architect for J.J. Henry Co. of New York City. He traveled the world extensively as a ship designer. He also designed the first liquefied natural gas container for shipping.
He served in the Navy and Merchant Marines during World War II.
He belonged to the Society of Naval Architects, the Van Harlingen Historical Society and was an avid bridge player.
Born in Newton, Mass., he was son of the late Seth W. and Elizabeth True Montgomery Banister and husband of the late Anne Siemon Banister.
Mr. Banister is survived by his sister, Lois Ann Banister of Newville; daughters Kim E. Banister of Boiling Springs, Pa. and Robin W. Banister of Philadelphia; sons William N. Banister of Milford, N.H. and James M. Banister of Hampton Va.; and grandchildren Caleb Banister, William Banister, Tyler Heishman, Emma Heishman, Hugh Banister, Anne Banister, and Rachel Schor.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Egger Funeral Home, 15 Big Spring Ave., Newville, Pa., with the Rev. John Good officiating.
