Michael P. Franko of Lawrence died Wednesday at Compassionate Care Hospice. He was 85.
Born in Trenton, he had resided in Lawrence since 1961.
He was a graduate of Rider University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Mr. Franko was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific.
He was a retired golf professional from the Green Acres Country Club. Mr. Franko retired after 30 years as the head golf professional at the club.
He was a member of the Church of St. Ann, Lawrence Council No. 7000 Knights of Columbus, Lawrence Township American Legion Post 414, and a life member of the New Jersey and National Professional Golf Association.
Mr. Franko was a former member of the board of directors and past president of the New Jersey PGA and past president of the New Jersey Seniors Golf Association.
Son of the late Michael and Theresa Kohan Franko, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Dotty” Harcar Franko; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Brenda Franko; brother and sister-in-law George and Nancy Franko; sister Margaret Vasily; grandsons Michael and Paul Franko; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, in Lawrence.
Burial will be in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
Calling hours are 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday in the daily chapel of the Church of St. Ann.
