The Diocese of Metuchen Office of Family Life will sponsor an Aug. 20 seminar at St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, Piscataway, for family and friends of individuals who may be exhibiting the early signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. The workshop will be offered at 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
The event, which is designed to provide support, comfort and knowledge to help caregivers cope with the stress of dealing with a loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, is aimed at giving factual and pastoral information. Participants will learn what to expect if a loved one has dementia or Alzheimer’s disease and how to communicate with a person suffering from these illnesses. Resources also will be provided to help prepare caregivers for the physical and emotional demands of their duties.
osemary Goulet, Sister, Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, will be the featured presenter. Sister Rosemary holds a master’s degree in health administration and a master’s degree in counseling with a specialization in gerontology from St. Joseph University, Philadelphia. She serves as coordinator of pastoral care and community at Marydale Retirement Village, Newark, Del., a care facility sponsored by the Catholic Ministry to the Elderly in the Diocese of Wilmington, Del.
Cost for the seminar is $10 per person, $5 per person for families of three or more.
