Mary G. Mercantini

BORDENTOWN – Mary G. Mercantini, 88, died Aug. 27 at her home with her loving family by her side.
    Born in Raritan, she moved to Bordentown in 1944 following her marriage. She was employed at General Motors in Ewing, where she met her future husband Leo Mercantini. She also worked for the Crescent Sports Ware Factory located in Bordentown. In the early 1960’s Mary and Leo were the owner/operators of “Leo’s Cut Rate Sundries and Candy Store” as well as Colonial Lighting both located in Bordentown.
    She retired in 2007 from Woods Industries at the Bordentown Regional High School. She was a volunteer foster grandparent for the Burlington County Cerebral Palsy Association Inc.
    She was a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church located in Bordentown as well as being a member of the St. Mary’s Altar Rosary Society, St. Mary’s School PTA, St. Mary’s Senior Citizens and the Bordentown Senior Citizens. Her greatest joy in life was caring for family. Known affectionately as “Nonna” by her grandchildren, she was a beloved wife, loving mother, and caring friend and will be missed by many.
    Daughter of the late John and Eliza Gabinelli, she was predeceased by her sister, Josephine Van Buskirk, her two brothers, John and Anthony Gabinelli, and her son-in-law, Charles “Russ” Russell. She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Leo Mercantini; her daughter, Sandra M. Russell, Ed.D; her daughter and son-in-law, Frances M. and Albert Gayzik; her son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Carol Hopf Mercantini; her grandchildren, Charles Matthew and his wife Katie Wagner Russell, Taylor Adam Gayzik, Dr. F. Scott Gayzik, Ph.D and his wife Caroline Comas Gayzik, 3rd class petty officer William James Mercantini Jr. and Nicholas Francis Mercantini; her great-grand children, Kelly Victoria Russell, and Charles Michael Russell, many nieces, nephews and caring friends.
    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church located at 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bordentown. Arrangements are under the direct care and supervision of Robert L. Pecht, Bordentown Home for Funerals, 40 Crosswicks St., Bordentown.
