John Saunders

   HILLSBOROUGH — John F. Saunders died Aug. 29. He was 78.
   He was born in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Hillsborough in 1960.
   Mr. Saunders’ career spanned the airline, paper, construction, and oil industries before he joined McGraw-Hill Publishing Company where he was a manager of information systems that supported the Dodge Division of the company. He retired in 1992 with 33 years of service.
   He served in the Naval Reserves at the time of the Korean War.
   He was a communicant and altar server at St. Joseph’s Parish in Millstone and had a special devotion to the rosary.
   He became a volunteer fireman with Hillsborough Fire Co. no. 2 in 1964.
   His wife, Helen Saunders, died in 2006.
   Surviving are five daughters, Donna Lochow, Barbara Beenders, Ruth Meagher, Maureen Matson and Helen Miller, two brothers, Bud and Finbarr Saunders, three sisters, Maureen Raspitha, Colleen Bording and Norita Birdsong; and eight grandchildren.
   A Mass was conducted Aug. 30 in St. Joseph’s Church. Burial was in Neshanic Cemetery, Hillsborough.
   Arrangements were under the direction of the Hillsborough Funeral Home in Hillsborough.
