Timothy Monticchio is someone all of us should emulate.
The 14-year-old Boy Scout from Monmouth Junction made it his mission to provide local families in economic distress with the kinds of items that sometimes are forgotten by donors to the township Food Pantry: personal hygiene products like toothbrushes and deodorant.
The Scout collected items from the community, creating 261 care packages that will be distributed through the Food Pantry during its winter holiday program.
It’s a remarkable achievement for a 14-year-old and helps him get one step closer to being an Eagle Scout.
We should follow his example, especially at a time when pantry use is up.
The pantry needs macaroni and cheese, cereal, soups, coffee, pasta, canned vegetables, snack food, tuna and boxed bake goods. Item can be brought to the Department of Social Services in the lower level of the Municipal Building on Ridge Road during office hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Donations also can be made at any time in a bin outside the departments office.
Those interested in donating money to the Human Intervention Trust Fund can do so by making out a check to the Human Intervention Trust Fund, and mailing it to the South Brunswick Township, P.O. Box 190 Monmouth Junction, N.J. 08852, attention: Social Services. The fund is used to help those in need with one time expenses.
