FLORENCE — The Roebling Garden Club will hold the dedication of the Charles G. Roebling Statue on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Main Street Circle, Fifth Avenue and Main Street, Roebling.
The unveiling of the statue is the culmination of a five-year fund-raising effort by the Roebling Garden Club. The statue was created by artist and sculptor Morris Docktor of Pennington.
The statue honors Mr. Roebling’s vision of community planning, commerce and industry. In 1905, Mr. Roebling purchased over 250 acres, 10 miles south of Trenton to expand the John A. Roebling’s Sons Company’s wire rope business. Not only did Mr. Roebling design the buildings collectively known as “the mill,” but built an entire village of 750 brick homes and established a fire and police department, a school and a general store. Today, all of the homes, the general store and the school are not only standing, but are in full use.
The Main Street Circle is a short walk from the Roebling Station on the NJ Transit RiverLine. The dedication will be held rain or shine.
