A special place to live

On Aug. 23, the South Brunswick Police Department investigated the case of a missing 16-year-old boy who walked away from his family’s Dayton home.
The boy was emotionally underdeveloped and is also autistic. His mother was moving him from a treatment facility in Pennsylvania to a new home. He became confused and bolted from the residence. When he was reported missing, it was considered to be an extremely serious situation given his endangered status and his inability to care for or protect himself.
Many resources were dedicated to finding the boy, who was ultimately located at a nearby Wal-Mart store following a 23-hour search.
While the paid professionals should be commended for their efforts, a heartfelt thanks goes out to the community volunteers who assisted in the search. Special recognition should go to the Monmouth Junction Fire Department, which provided 14 members who searched on foot through fields, woods, parking lots and backyards for hours. It is this type of selfless dedication to one’s fellow man that makes the community of South Brunswick a special place to live.
