MONROE — The Board of Education voted unanimously to name Applegarth Middle School Principal Jeff Gorman the new assistant superintendent in charge of curriculum on Wednesday.
Mr. Gorman replaces Christopher Tienken, who stepped down earlier this month to accept a position at Seton Hall University.
”Jeff is going to do a wonderful job and he has done some really innovative things in his time as an educator,” said interim Superintendent Joseph King. “He stays involved with the teachers and is in charge of the best middle school in Middlesex County. I had a child at Applegarth during Jeff’s time as principal and I was very happy with the work done.”
Mr. Gorman’s new position becomes effective Oct. 15. His former salary as principal was $130,513 and his new salary $140,000. School board President Amy Antelis said the board expects to name an interim principal for Applegarth at its Sept. 24 meeting.
”I’ve been a part of this district for 11 years and I’m really excited to continue the mission of excellence that the Board of Education has set forth for Monroe and I’m excited to be apart of it,” Mr. Gorman said. “I look forward to being in a position to touch more lives and this job gives me a broader opportunity to spread a positive message in curriculum instruction.”
Ms. Antelis also said the board has narrowed its search for a new superintendent to replace Ralph Ferrie. The board will begin the first round of interviewing candidates from a pool of 28 applicants. The interviews are expected to begin Sept. 22.
