Petition was presented to the Township Committee Monday

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP — More than 30 residents of Dublin Road have signed a petition requesting that speed humps be installed on the road.
The petition was presented to the Township Committee at its Monday night meeting by Louise Aucott, one of the signers.
”We’ve experienced a tremendous increase of traffic, a lot of which I would say is doing double the speed limit or more,” Ms. Aucott said. “I think it really is time to slow it down. Some of it literally blows me out of my garden.”
About mile and a half long and located in the central section of the township, Dublin Road runs from Pennington-Washington Crossing Road (Route 546) north to Pennington-Titusville Road. Its speed limit is 25 mph. Due to safety concerns, sidewalks were installed on the northern portion of the road several years ago. Most of the road does not have sidewalks. Most of its residences are on the northern half of the road.
Another woman who lives on Dublin Road also addressed the committee Monday night. “Our road really is frightening at times,” she said.
Like residents of other secondary roads of the township in recent years, Ms. Aucott and her neighbor said traffic on Dublin Road continues to increase as delays on Route 31 grow longer and longer. Dublin Road runs parallel to Route 31 about 100 yards to the west.
Traffic also has increased on the road, Ms. Aucott and her neighbor said, since construction of Merrill Lynch’s Southfields office park, located south of Route 546 near Dublin Road. Southfields was built in the early part of this decade.
After Southfields was built, turns onto both ends of Dublin Road were restricted during morning and evening rush hours. Signs to that effect have been posted for years. The signs have helped lessen congestion significantly, but traffic, and speeding, have continued to increase nonetheless, Ms. Aucott said.
The Township Committee said it would look into the speed humps issue.
