It wasn’t all that long ago that the sports staff of the Princeton Packet didn’t even know what a blog was.
Actually, we’re still figuring it out.
But now we’ll be figuring it out with a blog of our own.
It’s been up and running for a few weeks now. It’s called NJGameon and can be accessed off the Packet website www.packetonline.com. Just scroll down the page and click on the NJGameon link. Then, make sure to bookmark it and check it out every day. Right now, it is a work in progress. But the hope is that it eventually it becomes a place where people go for all sorts of local sports information.
It’s also a place where fans, parents, coaches and athletes can make a contribution.
Did your team just post an exciting win and one of the parents caught it on tape? Well, we can post those highlights on the website. Do you have photos from a nice win? Send them in and we’ll get them on the site.
We’ll try to post things on the blog that there may not be room for in the paper. We hope to have results of events that happen after our deadlines. There are links to other blogs, like former West Windsor-Plainsboro North athlete Chris Berg’s triathlon blog as well as West Windsor resident Peter Park’s blog from the Olympics.
We’ll be looking to eventually post results and stats the day of events, with the help of local coaches, parents, fans or athletes. If you have a team representative interested in getting this information to us, let us know and we will put the wheels in motion.
The hope is NJGameon will be a site where you can go for local sports information you might not find anywhere else. There will be contributions from the Packet staff, as well as our sports editors of Packet publications in surrounding communities.
We’re also hoping to do some special things as well. In the works is an online bracket style poll that will try to determine the greatest athlete in Princeton High School history. There will be similar polling for the other local schools as well.
There will be weekly updates of the standings in the Packet Fantasy Football League. And we’ve got links to other big events.
Right now, the whole site is a bit of a learn-as-you-go work in progress. We welcome suggestions and contributions to the site. If your team has a home page, let us know and we’ll link it to the site. It’s a place to eventually go for schedules and other info.
We’re hoping it turns out to be a place on the web that you visit every day. And it is a site that should get better and better as we figure out just what we’re doing.
Right now, the sky is the limit and we’ll see where the journey takes us.
Visit NJGameON today.
