Burlington County’s Men’s Health Network is looking for new members to come to its next meeting Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Burlington County Health Department on Pioneer Boulevard in Westampton. A light dinner will be served.
The Health Network, formed in 2005 by the Health Department and Burlington CountyCancer Coalition, has been meeting to raise awareness in the African-American community about issues such as prostate cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death among men.
“With African-Americans 60 percent more likely to die from prostate cancer than white men, the Men’s Health Network helps us encourage African-American men to get screened for prostate cancer when they turn 40,” said Freeholder Stacey Jordan who oversees the Health Department.
During the meetings, the men speak about some of the issues that African-American men face and give ideas on how to reach other men with the message on the importance of early and regular screening.
