Third-grader Antonio McFadden scored three goals to help Manville Recreation’s third and fourth grade soccer team to a 5-3 victory over Bridgewater Saturday in Manville’s opening game of the fall soccer season.
Manville’s first goal of the day came early in the first half when fourth-grader Ramon Quinonez scored off a pass from teammate Deven English. Soon after, McFadden dribbled up from the midfield to score Manville’s second goal.
Bridgewater came back with a goal to close the gap to 2-1. Marco Ortiz, from the far side of the net, put in another goal for Manville to end the first half at 3-1.
Only minutes into the second half, McFadden maneuvered the ball through the Bridgewater defense for his second goal of the game. He quickly scored again when he took the ball from the midfield line and netted the ball from inside the penalty box, which put Manville ahead 5-1. Bridgewater came on strong at the end of the second half with two unanswered goals, ending the game at 5-3.
First-time goaltender was third-grader Shane Honkisz, who made several saves for Manville.
