Community Open House
   Friday, Sept. 19 — From 6 to 8 p.m., come out and stroll historic Bordentown City and enjoy the third Friday in September. Start your evening out by viewing the several homes for sale, then visit the shops, restaurants, art galleries.
   Over 15 homes will be open for viewing and many will be serving light refreshments. Participating Real Estate offices are ERA Advantage Realty, Falconer & Bell, ReMax Tri-County, Coldwell Banker & Prudential Fox & Roach.

Community Day
   Saturday, Sept. 20 — Bordentown Township Community Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20. The event grounds are located in and around the Senior Community Center on Municipal Drive.
   Events and features include crafters, informational booths, antique cars, children’s crafts and games, food and drinks, plus live band Todd’s Porch Band and Black Tie DJs. Rain or shine.
   A parade will be held in honor of the Little League All-Star State Champions beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the city. The parade route begins on Park Street, proceeding left onto Farnsworth Avenue over Route 130 into the township and left onto Municipal Drive to have players and coaches participate in the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. In case of inclement weather the parade only will be held the following day, Sunday, Sept. 21, at the same time and place.
Children’s party
   Saturday, Sept. 20 — Parents and chidlren are invited to a children’s party, or “resale and recycle,” at Silk & Tweed resale shop, 148 Farnsworth Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to consignments there will be refreshments and prizes to anyone who brings a small recyclable. For more information call 298-4456.
Breakfast meeting
   Saturday, Sept. 20 — In an effort to get more members to attend a monthly meeting, the regular monthly meeting of the Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39 in Roebling normally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18, will be held on Saturday morning, Sept. 20, at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will start out with a breakfast of scrambled eggs and home fries. The meeting will start right after breakfast is finished. All members are urged to come out and enjoy the breakfast and meeting.
Country Fair
   Saturday, Sept. 20 — The North Hanover Country Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain date Sept. 21, at Green Acres Park, Schoolhouse Road (C.B. Lamb School).
   Plans include a car show sponsored by Liberty Toyota, 4H petting zoo and pony rides, Firefighters Chili Cook-off, Farmer’s Market, scheduled entertainment and much more. Come visit us in North Hanover to enjoy a day of good old fashion family fun.
   At this time, we are accepting applications for the car show ($10 in advance, $15 day of fair), crafters and artisans ($20 for a 10’ x 10’ space). Anyone interested should call the Township Clerk’s Office at 609-758-2522 ext. 241.
Flea market
   Saturday, Sept. 20 — The Friends of St. Mary’s School will hold a flea market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 in St. Mary’s School Hall and Yard, 30 Elizabeth St., Bordentown. Refreshments will include our famous tuna salad or egg salad sandwiches and hot dogs.
   A large selection of articles will be on sale from our many vendors.

Nature walk
   Saturday, Sept. 20 — Friends for the Marsh is holding a nature walk at the Bordentown Bluffs, from 10 a.m. to noon. Leaders: Philo Elmer and Charlie Fisher.    Saturday, Sept. 20 — The Senior Choir of the Shiloh Baptist Church will sponsor a dinner sale at 11 a.m. at the church, 104½ Elizabeth St., Bordentown.

   Friday, Sept. 26 — The Bordentown Football Annual Beef ‘n’ Beer/Gift Auction event will be held at the Bordentown Elks from 7 to 11 p.m. $25 per person, includes all-you- can-eat and drink, with a DJ. Emergency Services night
   Friday, Sept. 26 — The Burlington County Fire Marshals’ Association is sponsoring an Emergency Services Night at 6:30 p.m. at the Burlington County Emergency Services Training Center. The training center is located at 1 Academy Dr. in Westampton (located off of Woodland Road – behind the Burlington County Institute of Technology).
   Throughout the evening, tours will be given of the Emergency Services Training Center and a Fire Safety Trailer. Also, several activities are planned such as a structure fire demonstration and vehicle extrication. A variety of safety organizations will be there with displays and information. Light refreshments will be provided.
Church fish dinners
   Saturday, Sept. 27 — The Shiloh Baptist Church will sell fish dinners from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 104½ Elizabeth St., Bordentown. For more information, call 609-298-0574.
Movie night

Spaghetti dinner
   Saturday, Sept. 27 — An all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatball dinner will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at Crosswicks Fire House. Rolls, butter, salad, iced tea, coffee and ice cream included. Oldies Night
   Saturday, Sept. 27 — The Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39 on Fourth Avenue, Roebling, will sponsor an “Oldies Night” on Saturday, Sept. 27th at the Post Home. The doors will open at 6 p.m. with a buffet to begin at 7 p.m. The DJ will provide music from 8 p.m. until midnight. Tickets are $25 each and include beer and wine. Fall Festival
   Saturday, Sept. 27 — Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 280 Crosswicks Road, Bordentown is hosting its fourth annual Fall Festival Craft Fair and Flea Market from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. All other activities 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Other activities include: air jumper, dunk tank, music, live animals and pony rides, carnival games with prizes, bake sale, food and beverage, etc. Proceeds benefit HCLC Ministries such as the Isaiah Project. Village festival
   Saturday, Sept. 27 — The 20th annual Crosswicks Village Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 27.
   A wide variety of activities is scheduled including an antique car display, house tours ($10), vintage 1873 baseball game, book and bake sales, colonial dancers, pony rides, face painting, sand art, silent auction, childrens games, chili tasting contest. Old time corn-husking will be demonstrated. Tiger Town Trio will play Dixieland. A Civil War encampment will be in place. Crafters will exhibit unusual handmade items. Food for all ages all day long. A spaghetti dinner will end the day at the Crosswicks Firehouse ($8 adults).
   The festival is sponsored by Chesterfield Township Historical Society, Crosswicks Community Association, Crosswicks Library, Crosswicks Methodist Church and Crosswicks Fire Company. Information, 609-477-7101.
Cowboy Camp
   Sunday, Sept. 28 — Fernbrook Farms Education Center hosts a Cowboy Camp from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spend the day learning from real cowboys who are members of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the American Professional Rodeo Association. Kids will learn how to swing a calf rope, rope and tie a dummy calf, and saddle a horse. There will be races, videos, cowboy stories and pictures with the cowboys. Historical Society
   Wednesday, Oct. 1 — The annual membership meeting of the Bordentown Historical Society will be held at the Friends Meeting House, 302 Farnsworth Ave., 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1. A short business meeting will be followed by the program “Historic Schoolhouse Museums of Burlington County” presented by County Historian, Joseph M. Laufer. For more information call 298-3779.
Art fundraiser
   Saturday, Oct. 4 — The Firehouse Gallery is hosting an “Art for Obama” reception from noon to 6 pm. The event is sponsored by Bruce McBarnette, founder of the Art for Obama series, and hosted by Eric Gibbons, owner of the Firehouse Gallery.
   The Art for Obama reception is open to the public. Guests are asked to make a minimum contribution of $20 to the campaign of Barack Obama. A portion of the proceeds from art works sold also will be donated to the campaign.
   The Firehouse Gallery, located at 8 Maple Street, Bordentown, features artwork by Gibbons.

BCEC meeting
   Wednesday, Oct. 8 — The regular monthly meeting of the Bordentown City Environmental Commission will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Carslake Community Center. The meeting is open to the public.

Book discussions
   Wednesday, Oct. 8 — Book discussions are held the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Bordentown Library, East Union Street, in Bordentown City.
   On Oct. 8, “Netherland” by Joseph O’Neill will be up for discussion.
   A Dutch-born man whose marriage is foundering befriends a Trinidadian expatriate whom he met at a cricket match. In this post 9/11 NYC story, O’Neill explores the depths of male friendship, of mourning and memory. The prose, in its conscientiousness and beauty, involves us utterly in the struggle for meaning that governs any single life.

‘Amber Brown’ production

Dinner starts at 5 p.m. at Mission Fire Company, 51 Groveville Road, Bordentown Township. $85 per golfer includes greens fee and cart, food and beverages at the turn, a steak dinner, door prizes and awards. Fried oyster dinner
   Saturday, Oct. 11 – The annual fried oyster and chicken salad dinner will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Bordentown Chapter No. 257, OES, Masonic Temple, 121 Farnsworth Ave. Bordentown.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
   Wednesday, Oct. 15 — The Bordentown Historical Society will sponsor “Ichabod Crane, Washington Irving and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow” at 7 p.m. at the Friends Meeting House, 302 Farnsworth Ave., Bordentown. Neil Hartley is Washington Irving in this one-man living history presentation from the American Historic Theater of Philadelphia.

Wood’s Tea Company
   Sunday, Oct. 16 — Wood’s Tea Company, a Vermont-based group performing bluegrass, Celtic tunes, sea shanties and folk songs, will perform at 3 p.m. at Bordentown Regional Middle School, 50 Dunns Mill Road. Halloween parade
   Sunday, Oct. 26 — Preparations for the annual Bordentown City Halloween Parade have begun. The Halloween Parade will take place at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 with a rain date of Sunday, Nov. 2.
   Organizers are looking for floats, marching groups, bands, etc. to join the parade. The committee led by Steve McGowan of Consolidated Fire Association is hoping to see some of the newcomers from last year’s anniversary parade join it in creating a float for the Halloween Parade. You can register your float by calling Mr. McGowan at 609-298-9328.
   Halloween costume contest will take place the day of the parade in front of St Mary’s School on Elizabeth Street at 1 p.m. before the parade; no registration is required for the costume contest. Halloween House Decorating contest will take place the Saturday before the parade, more details to follow.
Holiday bazaar
   Sunday, Nov. 2 — Bordentown Elks Post 2085 is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, and on Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Woman’s Auxilary will help by having a Holiday Bazaar. It will be held in the lower ballroom at the Elks located on 11 Amboy Road, Bordentown. Tables will be provided and will cost $30 per table.
