Donate a pint of blood at Somerset Medical Center in September and get a free oil change or coupon for $30 off any auto service at Nerger’s Auto Express in Bound Brook. Somerset Medical Center’s Blood Donor Program is one of only three hospital-run programs of its kind in New Jersey. It relies on volunteer blood donors to provide most of the blood used annually by patients at the medical center. The medical center is especially in need of O-positive and A-positive blood types.
Anyone who is at least 17 years old, weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health may be eligible to donate blood.
Somerset Medical Center’s Blood Donor Program is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and on one Saturday each month. Weichert Realtors Hillsborough Office and the Freemasons Grand Lodge of New Jersey will hold a free Child Identification Program (CHIP) at Weichert’s Hillsborough office at 421 Route 206 South from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the event, children will be fingerprinted; dental impressions are taken as well a photo and video of the children. The video and photo which are put onto a CD, consists of a brief interview with key question concerning the child’s mannerisms and speech patterns. The CHIP program is an opportunity for parents to create an emergency kit filled with materials to identify a child, providing critical information in the event that a child is ever missing. This program is endorsed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). For more information call 908-874-8100.
The Manville Democratic Club will hold a fundraising event for Borough Council candidates Lou Fischer and Ron Skirkanish from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Polish Falcons Camp in Hillsborough.
