Cranbury School has new rules for bicycles

CRANBURY — In an effort to make the dismissal of students safer, the Cranbury School is asking students to walk their bikes until they leave school property.
Last year the school changed its dismissal pattern, which now has students in grades kindergarten through five and students in grade six through eight leaving through different designated doors.
”What we did moved younger children to an easier to access location,” said Chief School Administrator John Haney. “The school is looking to make entering and exiting the building as safe as possible. Unfortunately, this causes more traffic.”
Due to parents using the service road on the West Property to pick up their children, increased traffic caused the school to act on the concerns of parents.
”We’re just asking them to walk their bikes on the hard concrete until they’re off school property and away from the traffic,” Mr. Haney said. “We had some concerns from parents, we heard them and acted on their concerns for the safety of the students.”
