Florence girls’ soccer posts pair of shutouts in 2-0 start

The Florence Township Memorial High girls’ varsity soccer team used some great defense by its defenders and its midfielders and forwards to blow out Westampton Tech, 4-0, at home on Tuesday afternoon.
Kristen Cardaciatto and Jean Oros each netted a pair of goals and had an assist. Amanda Lutz also had a two-goal game. However, Cardaciatto, Oros and Lutz used some crafty defense to score their goals which were not assisted.
“On the four (unassisted) goals we scored they (Cardaciatto, Oros and Lutz) just took the ball off of the Westampton defenders and shot it in,” said Florence’s scorekeeper Charley Bauer, who assists his wife Mary, the Flashes’ girls’ varsity soccer head coach, any way he can with the team. “Oros had two goals like that.”
Florence scored twice in the first half and four times in the second stanza. As usual, the Flashes’ goalie Angela Federico made several nice stops and picked up her second shutout of the season.
“Federico had nine saves and they only had nine shots. We had 27 shots,” said Bauer.
Last Friday Florence won at Life Center Academy, 2-0.
Despite the final score, Bauer was very impressed with LCA’s play in the game. But Tammy Nowicki puts a good Warrior team on the field year in and year out.
“It was a closer game than the final score indicated,” added Bauer, whose wife Mary was very pleased that her team was able to escape with a win, especially given the harsh weather conditions on Friday.
The Flashes scored a goal in each half. Cardaciatto scored off an Oros pass and Marissa Siwak fired in a goal with an assist from Lutz.
“That Kristen Cardaciatto is playing so well,” said Bauer. “And Marissa Siwak is a heck of a player.”
Federico posted eight saves to earn the shutout.
Florence (2-0) is scheduled at Palmyra today (Thursday). It is scheduled to host Holy Cross on Saturday and Trenton Catholic on Monday. Florence is scheduled Burlington City next Wednesday.
    LCA
Other than the Florence game, LCA had as pretty good week. This past Tuesday in Florence, Life Center Academy captured a 3-1 overtime win over Doane Academy as Gina Michachalski put LCA ahead 2-1 on an overtime goal. Star Abinir also netted an overtime goal for the victors. And Kelly Michalski had the Warriors’ only tally of regulation.
On Monday LCA creamed Barrack Hebrew School 4-0 on the road. K. Michalski scored a pair of goals while Caludia Breves and Liz Harrison each knocked in a goal. Cayla Bercaw made eight saves for LCA.
LCA is scheduled to host Trenton Central High on Friday and Atlantic Christian next Tuesday.

So far injuries have slowed down the progress of the Bordentown High girls’ varsity soccer squad this season.
Bordentown, however, did post an excellent 6-0 victory at Willingboro on Monday. In that contest Lauren Donahue and Samantha Martinez both knocked in a pair of goals. Leah Shaw and Alyssa Donahue each netted a goal as well. Bordentown goalie Vicky Villalba had to make just three saves to post her first shutout of the season.
Then on Tuesday evening at Cinnaminson the Pirates defeated the Scotties, 4-0. Cinnamison scored a pair of goals in each half and things could have been worse had Scotties’ goalie Nicole Walls not made 18 saves.
Last Friday Bordentown opened the season with a 4-0 loss at Moorestown. The Quakers’ Bridgett Bianco did most of the damage with three goals.
While Bordentown did not expect to be shut out by either Moorestown or Cinnaminson, Scotties’ head coach Dominick Castaldo knew going into the season that both of those contests would be tough ones to win.
The season is still very young and there are still more than enough potential wins on the schedule for the Scotties to have a strong season and qualify for the state tournament.
Bordentown (1-2) is scheduled at Rancocas Valley today (Thursday) and it is scheduled to play Northern Burlington on the road next Monday night.
    NBC
While the Northern Burlington High girls’ soccer team has yet to win a game, they’ve played some close ones.
In fact, this past Saturday at Ewing, NBC lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to Ewing on Gretchen Meister game-winning penalty kick in the second overtime of the contest. Mara Bush and Gianna Bush each scored a goal for the Greyhounds in regulation.
NBC began its season with a 3-0 home loss to Seneca in the rain last Friday. NBC, which not only graduated most of last year’s starters but has been hit very hard by injuries this fall, held Seneca to just one goal in the first half. This past Tuesday, Moorestown hosted and defeated Northern Burlington, 4-0.
“The team played the best game of the season,” said NBC girls’ varsity soccer head coach Larry Young, whose team held the Quakers off the scoreboard until there was just a half a minute left in the first stanza. “(We) played well in the second half but could not finish.”
Despite the loss, Young thought that goalie Jackie Laurenti had a good game.
In addition to its game versus Bordentown, NBC (0-3) is scheduled at Delran on Friday. It is also scheduled to host Rancocas Valley next Wednesday.
