Roosevelt plans Saturday carnival

MANVILLE — Manville students can trade pencils and worksheets for games and prizes Saturday, when the Roosevelt School Parent-Teacher Association hosts its third Back-to-School carnival.
The Back-to-School carnival will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Roosevelt School playground. In the event of rain, the carnival has a rain date of Oct. 4.
The Roosevelt School Parent-Teacher Association received a $500 grant from Kohl’s to fund the event. Though it’s a back to school carnival, Stephanie Cornelson, carnival chairwoman, said the event is open to all Manville residents.
”We are hoping that this gives school staff, students and parents a chance to interact together in a fun environment,” Ms. Cornelson said. “Along with parents and school staff, we are also having high school students volunteer.”
Ms. Cornelson said admission to the event is free, and will include games, prizes, a DJ, and a moonwalk. Games are expected to cost 50 cents to $1 to play, and are suitable for contestants of all ages, Ms. Cornelson said.
This year, the Roosevelt PTA added kielbasi and sauerkraut, and pirogies to the carnival menu. The menu will also feature hamburgers, hot dogs, cookies, chips, popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy, Ms. Cornelson said.
