MANVILLE — 21 Manville High School seniors have the honor of being nominated for the school’s popular title of Homecoming King and Queen.
The seniors will find out at Friday night’s football game who will be the next ones to wear the crowns.
Last week, teachers and staff nominated the students in the senior class who they felt did the most while they were at MHS. All the nominations were totaled to get the top ones and they were announced on Friday. There are 11 boys and 10 girls hoping to get the title.
On Tuesday, the nominees participated in an assembly sponsored by the junior class. The nominees were escorted by someone of their choice onto the stage and their biographies of their accomplishments during their years at MHS were read.
”This year’s nominees are an outstanding group of kids,” Denise Formanowski, the junior class adviser, said. “They have worked hard for the past four years and deserve the honor of being nominated for homecoming king and queen.”
”So many of these kids do exactly what is asked of them at a moment’s notice and drop everything to make sure that things in the building happen,” Student Council adviser Michael Lapatosky said. “They make things happen when it comes to events, fundraisers, clubs that do civic duties throughout the community, they volunteer.
”It is a true testament as to how great Manville kids really are when you see such a large group of kids out of a typically small group doing the same things that many kids at other high schools accomplish,” he added.
The nominees for queen are Angelika Lazar, Yanela Cruz, Kate Harodetsky, Evanna Tchir, Amanda Furka, Arielle Mizov, Rebecca Burke, Bonnie Burris, Sarah Kondash and Casey Shields.
The senior boys nominated are Dawid Brozyna, Pawel Maziarz, Joey Burnett, Ryan McKee, Matthew Zangara, Billy Mazzucca, Travis Williams, Tony Aichele, Derek Sanchez, Dan Kirkaldy and Josh Michalski.
The student body will vote to narrow the 21 down to10 five boys and five girls. The final five will be escorted on the field during half time at game Friday night and the new king and queen will be crowned.
”They worked hard for four years and have something to look forward to and be honored,” said Mr. Lapatosky.
