Colts roll to fourth victory

MYAL FOOTBALL

The Manville Colts improved their record to 4-1 with a 30-0 win over St. Cecelia’s last Sunday on the road in Iselin.
Manville dominated on both sides of the ball. If there was a weak spot in play it was in that elusive extra point. Attempts were made running, passing and even kicking. The kicking attempts were made by Joey Veglatte and Nick Harenza.
Offensively, the ball touched the hands of six different backs for a total of 247 yards. Andre Heridia had 12 yards from the quarterback position. Altaron Robinson, Matias Gualtieri and LJ Abner had totals of 52, 53 and 55 yards, respectively. Isiah Morgan had 48 yards on the day running up the middle, while Veglatte had 27 yards.
Robinson and Abner each scored two touchdowns and Gualtieri had the other for the Colts. The offensive line got a good push all day with Jonathan Rizk, Luis Monterroso, Jake Babich, Marc Hagan, Jake Caswell, Sergio Mora, Arber Berisha, Mike Salvatore and Angelo Locham leading the charge.
Defensively, the Colts gave up very few yards. Coach Bob Willard seems to have things under control and improving weekly. Players who made more than two tackles were Robinson, Salvatore, Abner, Veglatte, Heridia and Caswell.
Defensive ends Rizk and Babich showed containment skills. Monterroso and Mergin Merisha showed improvement at safety. The coaches also though Matt George was close to running on the field and making a tackle. This week’s captains were Jake Babich and Sergio Mora.
Next Sunday, the Colts take Middlesex at home at approximately 4:15 p.m. Come out and support the MYAL and future Manville High School players.

Puza scores
but Pintos lose
The Manville Pintos lost to St Cecelia’s Sunday 21-7 despite scoring first.
The Pintos drove down the field and Kyle Puza scored the touchdown and also added the extra point.
St Cecelia’s mixed up plays and ran outside for a score to tie. The Pintos just made too many mistakes, including a interception that was returned for a score.
Manville came back in the last quarter but ran out of time to do any damage. Both the offense and defense played hard and the coaches were all proud of the boys for not giving up.
The Pintos will be at home against Middlesex next Sunday.
